Tips for a Healthy Winter

It’s winter time! … and for us in South Florida it can be one of the most pleasant times of the year.

Sunny skies, cool breezes, and our beaches packed with many visitors from the north that appreciate our weather as much if not more than we do.  The occasional temperature drop forces us to gather our old sweaters, jackets, and boots, and the smell of hot cocoa seems more appealing than at any other time when compared to the seemingly everlasting hot and humid months.

But with this joy comes a series of viruses that lurk our homes and work spaces.  Advertisements for the flu shot are present everywhere during the Fall months, and doctor’s offices and pharmacies don’t cease to ask patients if they have already taken advantage of its benefits.  But, now that winter is finally here, how else are you taking care of yourself during the cold and flu season?  Even if you have had the flu shot, there is still a chance of feeling under the weather, so be proactive this winter season and take preventative measures to avoid colds and flu-like viruses.

Here are a few healthy tips to keep you going strong during this winter season:

  • Eat a healthy diet full of antioxidants
  • Eat protein rich foods
  • Sip hot herbal tea
  • Get plenty of rest
  • Drink a lot of fluids, especially water
  • Uptake your vitamin C
  • Wash your hands regularly, especially when visiting doctors’ offices and in public places
  • Keep your immune system healthy by exercising regularly
  • Eat probiotics or a supplement containing them
  • Pop some Zinc
  • Wear warm clothes when temperatures drop
  • Avoid close contact with people that are sick
  • Clean your phone regularly
  • Sanitize your home and work space
  • Keep stress under control to maintain a healthy immune system.

Visit one of our doctors at any of our two convenient locations if you or a loved one have concerning symptoms. Call us at 954-454-6300 for more information, walk-ins are also welcome.

We hope these few tips are helpful and wish you a fun and health winter under the Sun!

Flu Season

Flu & cold season is here! With sudden changes in our South Florida weather, temperatures rising and dropping, there is a higher chance of catching the flu or a simple cold that could debilitate you for weeks.

But how can we avoid the flu completely? Although there is no sure way to avoid it entirely, here are a few steps you can take to prevent falling prey to the flu:

  • Get the annual flu shot.
  • Wash your hands regularly.
  • Eat a healthy diet.
  • Exercise regularly, aim for 30 mins a day at least 5 days a week.
  • Drink enough fluids to maintain good hydration
  • Consume vitamin C.
  • Take extra precautions when caring or spending time with some one that already has the virus.

Talk to your doctor for a more personalized preventative treatment. The flu can be a very debilitating illness that you want to avoid.

There is still time to equip yourself for the season, get your flu shot and stay healthy during the holidays and winter days.

Call our Hollywood office at (954) 989-7441 or our Hallandale Beach office at (954) 454-6300 for more information regarding the annual flu shot and to make an appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome, see our office hours for more details.
